The quarantine for coronavirus had just started and I thought to myself that I should get a good book to spend my time on, during the isolation
. Wilbur Smith's River God, is an all time favorite of mine, so this was a great opportunity to learn what happened next on Taita's story. Well, it turns out that most of his books are currently not available here, so I did not get the direct "sequel". Pharaoh, is a book that takes place a long time after the events of River God.
I was excited at the beginning. Taita and what was left of the Egyptian army, were up for a last stand against their much stronger opponents, the powerful Yksos. Everything seemed to be lost, but then, unexpected help from an old friend arrived.
To keep this review spoiler-free, I won't say what happened next.
The events on this book were quite exciting and adventurous, but I would be a lier if I say that there were no issues. The plot is quite obvious and predictable and most of the characters are one-dimensional. This book can be considered to be fantasy, cause it deals with things like Gods and supernatural abilities. I don't know how I feel about this, but it doesn't bother me so much. While I was reading it, I was constantly expecting it to reach a peak. That never happened ..
When I finished it, I had mixed feelings. This is not the best book of Mr Smith for sure, but it worths a read ..
