A Special Moment (PaleoStories)

This Velociraptor was almost fully grown . He was having a very pleasant life and was really happy with it . He lived inside the vast and dense forests of the Cretaceous . This place was perfect for a Velociraptor . There were plenty of small and easy to catch creatures , countless small rivers and lakes and the most important : lots of members of his species . He could easily form packs and breed in here . This place was a heaven on Earth for this animal .

One of his most common hunting victims in here , were those small Prehistoric rats . As he was walking around , he spotted one and started chasing it . He was about to catch it when he saw something that caught his attention .

At first sight it looked like a big rock , but when he got closer the view was very different . He stopped . The rat was fortunate enough to survive for one more day in this dangerous (for it) lands . It turned to look the Velociraptor for one last time before vanishing into the bushes . It's hunter seemed to be socked . He truly was . His experience was telling him that this was a skull . He ate meat from countless skulls before . But this one was different . This one was huge . It was bigger than him and it was only the head of an once living creature .

The young Velociraptor had never left the forest to go on more open areas and so he had never encountered something that large . He had saw some huge shadows among the trees , but he couldn't imagine that they belonged to living creatures . He stayed there looking at the skull for a long time . Then he turned his head away from it and started leaving for the more dense areas of the woods .

He was glad that he never left his birth place . Things continued to go well for this Velociraptor and he happened to live a healthy and long life . Many decades after his death , a massive asteroid wiped out almost every species of that era . This skull , although , managed to stay intact for millions of years until some intelligent species of mammals discovered it .

Like the Velociraptor once was , they were socked by the size of this animal . It was one of the largest predators that ever walked the Earth . They gave him the name Carcharodontosaurus ( because of his shark-looking teeth ) . Later they found out that this species were already extinct for millions of years when the Velociraptors appeared on the planet . The age of the dinosaurs was trully huge they thought . Now , they are the new rulers of the world , but they exist for just a fraction of time compared to dinosaurs . And only if they knew how it all started .

That Prehistoric rat was really fortunate to escape that day . It will be his DNA that will evolve and turn into something unique for the planet's history . It will give birth to the human kind !
